Γιατί ο ποιοτικός ύπνος είναι απαραίτητος στη ζωή ενός εφήβου

Why quality sleep is essential in a teenager's life

Sleep is one of the first functions to be affected during adolescence. The new biological processes that take place in the adolescent's life, combined with the new social conditions he discovers, cause the mood for a night's sleep but also the illusion that even a little sleep is enough. And yet, sleep in this age group is one of the most determining factors for both physical and mental health, helping a teenager to be efficient at school and calm in the face of all the situations he is asked to manage. According to the National Sleep Foundation, violating a normal sleep schedule for a teenager can have significant negative consequences: from sleepiness, which makes it difficult to communicate with family, friends and school performance on a daily basis, to poor psychology that it increases stress, causing additional stress in the teenager's daily life. To avoid all these unpleasant consequences, Orion Strom 's sleep experts suggest five small - but effective - tips that help every teenager enjoy a quality sleep every night!
  • 8 to 10 hours of sleep each night: Teenagers need about 8 to 10 hours of sleep each night to function at their best during the day. Most teenagers, however, don't get enough sleep. Studies report that only 15% sleep a total of 8 1/2 hours in the school term.
  • Cool, quiet & dark room: Make your room perfect for sleeping! Make sure it is properly ventilated, and prefer to turn off all the lights, leaving only the bright light in the morning to wake you up.
  • Consistent sleep schedule: Consistent bedtimes go a long way in helping a teenager fall asleep at the right time and wake up full and rested on their own. Preferably, the best times to sleep are after 11 pm.
  • No last-minute classes: Whatever you managed to do from reading and classes during the day, it's done! There is no reason for any teenager to be drowsy trying to finish their homework, depriving themselves of precious hours of rest.
  • Avoid TV, computer or cell phone before bed: Electronic devices are sources of information overload that "bombard" the mind and do not let it relax, while radiation also negatively stimulates the senses, disrupting the natural mood for sleep.
