The quality of our sleep depends on many factors – from the mattress and the environment to the natural functions of our body. One of the most important “invisible helpers” of sleep is melatonin.
🔍 What is melatonin?
Melatonin is a natural hormone produced by the brain, specifically by the pineal gland, when it starts to get dark. It works like a “sleep clock”, signalling to the body that it is nearly time to relax and go to sleep.
😴 How does it help sleep?
Melatonin:
- Regulates our internal clock (also known as the circadian rhythm).
- Makes it easier to fall asleep, helping the body get into the right "orbit".
- Shortens the time we need to drop off, making the transition from wakefulness to rest smoother.
🌙 Sleep quality and melatonin
The production of melatonin is affected by light. Exposure to artificial light before bed (such as from phone and computer screens) can reduce it and disturb the natural rhythm of our sleep.
To boost its action naturally:
- We avoid screens for 1 hour before bed.
- We keep our space dark and quiet.
- We choose a quality mattress and pillows that support the body and help us relax.
💤 At ORION Strom we believe that good sleep starts with the body's natural balance and is completed on a well-designed mattress.
